Medical Colleges Must Report Intern/Resident Stipends

Medical colleges must report intern/resident stipends

Background and Legal Standards:

Following orders from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in WP (Civil) No. 730/2022 and subsequent rulings on September 16, 2023, and April 1, 2024, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked medical interns and residents to submit their stipend info. The regulation applies to all health institutions and medical colleges across the country.

Stipend Information for Fiscal Year 2023-2024:

For the fiscal year 2023-2024, medical institutions must provide stipend information for senior residents or PGs in super specialties, undergraduate (UG) interns, and post-graduate (PG) residents. By April 23, 2024, this information should be emailed to stipend23-24@nmc.org.in.

Stipend Process for Fiscal Year 2024-2025: What Changes Are Coming?

A fresh process has also been set for the 2024–25 fiscal year to prepare for the future. Institutions must post information on stipends on their websites. Monthly updates must be posted by the fifth day of the month at the latest.

Medical colleges and other institutions must send a detailed stipend report to the NMC via email at stipend24-25@nmc.org.in after each fiscal year.

Ensuring Transparency and Accountability:

By taking these steps, we hope to ensure that stipend payments to medical interns and residents are more transparent and accountable.
